Privacy policy
What we collect when you read Tearline, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
Tearline is published by Fixpoint Security Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under number 17226285, at The Old Mill, Blisworth Hill Farm, Stoke Road, Blisworth, Northampton, NN7 3DB. We are the controller of the personal information described here. You can contact us about privacy at support@tearline.co.uk
What we collect
When you visit the site, your browser sends basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. Our hosting provider, Webflow, processes this to deliver the site and keep it secure.
If you email us or use one of the forms on the site, we receive your name, email address and whatever you choose to tell us.
If you sign up to our newsletter, we collect your email address and pass it to Kit, the service we use to send the newsletter.
We use Google Analytics to measure how many people visit the site and which pages they read. It uses cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, your device and browser, and your approximate location. Our cookie policy explains the cookies involved. We do not use advertising trackers.
Some pages include a podcast player from Transistor, which hosts our podcast. When the player loads or you press play, Transistor receives technical information such as your IP address and device type.
Why we use it
We use technical information to run and protect the site, analytics to understand which stories readers find useful and to improve the site, and your contact details to reply to you. Our lawful basis for running the site and replying to you is our legitimate interest in operating the publication and answering readers. We will only send you the newsletter if you have given your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers who help us run Tearline, and only so they can provide that service: Webflow, which hosts the site and its forms; Google, which provides Google Analytics; Kit, which sends our newsletter; and Transistor, which hosts our podcast. We never sell your information, and we do not share reader information with our partners or sponsors.
Some providers are based outside the UK. Where information leaves the UK, we rely on the safeguards UK data protection law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep emails for up to 24 months unless we need them for longer to deal with an ongoing matter. Newsletter subscribers stay on our list until they unsubscribe.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or move it elsewhere. You can also object to how we use it. Email support@tearline.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when how we use information changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
