Cookie policy
Which cookies Tearline uses, and how to control them.
What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Some are needed for a site to work; others are used to measure visits or show advertising.
The cookies we use
Strictly necessary. Our hosting provider, Webflow, may set cookies that keep the site running securely, and Cloudflare may set one when it checks that a sign-up to our newsletter comes from a person rather than a bot. These do not track you across other websites, and the law allows them without consent.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit Tearline, which pages they read and how they found us. These cookies are only set if you choose Accept in our cookie banner; if you decline or ignore it, Google Analytics does not run. It sets cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, which distinguish one visitor from another and last for up to two years. The information is collected by Google on our behalf; we use it only in aggregate, to improve the site, and not to identify you. We do not use it for advertising.
Podcast players. Our podcast is hosted by Transistor, and some pages include its embedded player. The player loads from Transistor's servers, so Transistor receives technical details such as your IP address and device type, and when you press play the audio streams from them. Transistor may also use cookies or similar technology to count listens. Their own privacy policy explains how they handle this.
Forms. Our newsletter sign-up and contact forms are part of this website, not embedded from another service, so they do not set marketing cookies. When you sign up to the newsletter, we pass your details to Kit, the service we use to send it. How we use that information is covered in our privacy policy.
Controlling cookies
You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or stop Google Analytics measuring your visits on any website with Google's opt-out browser add-on. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working properly.
